DRUMMING

DRUMMING: SNARE

Level 1 – Beginner: On the practice pad or on the Scottish snare drum, any 2 part 4/4 or 2/4 Quick March played twice over.

Level 2 – Amateur: On the Scottish snare drum any 3 to 5 minute Quick March Medley, or any Quick March – Slow Aire – Quick March Medley.

Level 3 – Advanced Amateur:  On the Scottish snare drum a free choice medley to include quick marches, strathspeys, reels, hornpipes, and jigs 3 to 8 minutes in length.

Open/Professional Level:  On the Scottish snare drum a free choice medley to include quick marches, strathspeys, reels, hornpipes, and jigs 3 to 8 minutes in length AND a 4 part or more March-Strathspey-Reel set.

 

DRUMMING: TENOR

 

Level 1 – Beginner: On the Scottish tenor drum, any 2 part or more 4/4 or 2/4 Quick March played twice over.

Level 2 – Amateur: On the Scottish tenor drum any 3 to 5 minute Quick March Medley.  Twirling is optional but highly encouraged.

Level 3 – Advanced Amateur:  On the Scottish tenor drum 3 to 8 minute medley.  Twirling required.

Open/Professional Level:  On the Scottish tenor drum any 3 to 8 minute medley AND a 4 part or more March-Strathspey-Reel set.  Twirling required.

 

DRUMMING: BASS

 

Level 1 – Beginner: On the bass drum, 3 to 5 minute Quick March Medley.

Level 2 – Amateur: On the bass drum, 3 to 8 minute free choice medley.

Open/Professional Level:  On the bass drum any 3 to 8 minute free choice medley AND a 4 part or more March-Strathspey-Reel set. 

Drumming Certificate Candidates may be accompanied by a piper, pipers, or a pipe band.  Electronic recordings may also be used as accompaniment.  The Drumming Certificate Candidate(s) must perform in a public setting such as at a contest(s), or at a band practice before their band, or in the alternative by submitting electronic audio-visual recordings to include the date(s) that the tune requirements were recorded.  In no instance shall the Certificate candidates take more than one month to complete the tune and/or set requirements.  Certificate candidates shall request evaluations from the CCPBC Board of Directors, or through the Pipe Majors of the CCPBC pipe band of which they are a member.  Members of the CCPBC Board of Directors or the Certificate Candidate’s Pipe Major and/or Drum Sergeant shall fill out the appropriate CCPBC Evaluation forms and make the determination if the candidate has satisfied the requirements.  The CCPBC Board of Directors shall award candidates the certificates achieved and maintain a record of all CCPBC Education Certificate Program awards.

 

If any candidate has completed similar requirements from other piping and drumming associations, or school, or institutions that, or those candidates may apply for an equivalent level certification, upon sending a written request to the CCPBC Board of Directors along with a copy of their certificate(s) from the other associations, schools, or institutions.  If electronic recordings were used, and are still available, the candidate(s) should also send those along with their written requests.
